Anti-wrinkle injections (commonly known as Botox or Botulinum Toxin) are the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure. They are used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles by temporarily paralysing the underlying muscles. It can also be used to treat excessive sweating as well as several medical conditions. Anti-wrinkle injections work by preventing signals from the nerve cells reaching the muscles, therefore paralysing them. It is administered by diluting the powder in saline and injecting it directly into neuromuscular tissue. It takes between 24 to 72 hours to start to take effect, but it is widely known to take as long as 5 to 14 days for the full effect to be observed.
Having it for the first time?
How painful it is will vary for everyone. It is not one single injection but a number of injections, spaced out around the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes. The lower face can also be treated to improve the appearance of the jawline and neck. Some barely hurt, others may make your eyes water! Each injection takes seconds. Your treatment practitioner will let you know the aftercare and may put a touch of concealer on the injected areas to cover any redness.
