Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that’s used to treat skin concerns via collagen production. Also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, this treatment may help those looking to reduce the appearance of acne, scars, stretch marks, uneven skin tone/texture & fine lines and wrinkles.
Microneedling works by encouraging your skin to make more collagen. The idea is that pinpricks from the pen or roller used causes slight injury to the skin and the skin responds by making new collagen-rich tissue. As mentioned before, there are several different devices that can be used, such as manual dermal rollers or automated pen-like devices. These have fine, sharp needles which are introduced into the skin. The damage caused encourages the body to produce new collagen and elastin which generate new skin cells.
Having it for the first time?
Treatment sessions with either the pen or dermal roller take between 10 minutes to an hour, depending on the area to be treated. A topical anaesthetic can be applied to help with the discomfort. There is little to no downtime, with the exception of a slight amount of redness. Your skin will be extra sensitive to the sun for a few days as well, so a high SPF sunscreen will need to be used. To achieve the best results, more than one treatment will be required. You can expect to notice a significant difference in your skin between 4-8 weeks.
